Proloquo2Go in action:

Learn and grow

Studies show that just 200-400 words make up 80% of what we say. Known as core words, they act as the basis of Proloquo2Go’s research-based Crescendo™ vocabulary. Users can grow from single words to full sentences in the same app. Crescendo puts core words in consistent locations for easy access and motor-planning. The vocabulary works with AAC best practices like modeling (where you use an AAC system to talk with the user) to develop language skills. Crescendo offers no limit on language development with a 10,000+ fringe word vocabulary and customizable vocabulary levels. Finally, with Progressive Language, words are gradually revealed step-by-step, helping users learn words and their location as their communication expands.

Easy editing

Customizing Proloquo2Go is a breeze! Quickly and easily add new words. Use the app’s built-in library of 25,000 symbols or use your own photos by taking pictures within the app or selecting them from your photo library. For users with fine-motor challenges and vision impairments, Proloquo2Go offers options like 23 pre-programmed grid sizes and accessibility settings which support switch scanning and Apple’s VoiceOver screen reader. Everything from appearance to access is customizable so you can make it your own.

Type and speak

Besides tapping images, Proloquo2Go also lets you type what you want to say. The app includes a Grid Keyboard arranged alphabetically for people learning to type. For more experienced typists, Proloquo2Go includes a Typing View with a QWERTY keyboard and word prediction that offers suggestions based on what you are typing.

Hello! ¡Hola! Bonjour! Hallo!

Proloquo2Go lets you select a language and region for the Crescendo vocabulary. Two languages can be used at the same time, allowing seamless bilingual speech. Over 100 included downloadable natural-sounding adult and children’s voices rounds out your choices to use the app your way.

Pros and cons of Proloquo2Go AAC app for iPhone and iPad

Proloquo2Go AAC app good for

Please enable landscape mode in Typing View not just portrait mode.
AWESOME!!!! I bought this for my 12 year old son with autism and he really likes it. I had programmed a similar type communication board set using Speaking Dynamically Pro a couple of years ago and used it on a Samsung NQ01 or something like that (computer with a touch screen). But this.... THis is SO MUCH MORE PORTABLE! Once you get used to the connections between the different folders, this is a breeze. My only wish is that I could work on the custom stuff on my computer and then transfer to the iPod touch. I think my eyes need the rest. And the Symbolstix graphics are about the right age appropriate for this age group.
I purchased this application for my son who has Down syndrome and is non-verbal. He already has an AAC (Vantage Lite), but I wanted something with more portability that can easily fit in his or my pocket for outings. The program itself is great for the most part, however the sound from the iPod is far too low to really make it useful. I find it ironic that this program is to help people "talk" who cant, yet its virtualy impossible for a person to hear what is being said!
We purchased this app, with the iPad, in the hopes of simplifying a means of communication for our son. It took some time, but after a little experimentation, we got his phrases and words set up. It needs a little more volume, but it was worth every penny and more to have him able to express his needs.
We bought this app when it first came out and have never been disappointed. Features 1) simple to use, understand and customize. 2) add and delete sets. 3) very customizable add your own pictures or downloaded pictures customize any pictures including the apps pictures to say anything. create sets for any situation example; we have many sets for many different situations like different outings, educational sets, favorite foods/restaurant requests, stories explaining situations such as when we traveled explanations for everything that was going to happen. 4) the possibilities are endless. It can be as simple as teaching the first picture or as complicated as the person using it can handle. 5) my daughter started trying to talk more with this app and encouragement to say what the pictures say. She still is considered mostly nonverbal but she tries to say everything.
I have needed to reinstall this app three times since the last update. There are some great features in the new version but it is very frustrating becuse it is crashing frequently.

Some bad moments

Just a few minutes with this app and I see great potential.. but not easy enough to use for the price. To make it really useful for a brother who has expressive aphasia following a stroke I will need to customize the expressions. I cannot see a way to do the typing on the computer and then sync to the app. I can connect to computer, but only for backups. It would be so efficient to do the work on the computer and then sync it to the iPod. Please... it needs a bonjour connection to sync data from the computer. Doing all the data entry on the iPod is painful.
I have used this app with hundreds of kids with great success and recommended it to many schools in the past. I have conducted district wide trainings on how to program. This versions programming is not at all intuitive and has lost its ease of use. I myself am frustrated and am finding myself utilizing other communication apps. Sad because this really is the best when it comes to features but now takes a far back seat to those that are more intuitive in programming
For two years, I have been told that proloquo2go will be adding switch scanning access "before the end of this year". Im sick and tired of being told that something else is a higher priority than my son and thousands of other kiddos being able to access this app. We spent a lot of money on it because I was told that it would be switch accessible within months; money that could have paid for medical supplies, therapies, or medical equipment. Its time for assistiveware to follow through on their promises or refund our money!
We paid good money for this app when it first came out, but our special little man will not benefit from it much until the developers add a switch scanning access. We have been patiently waiting. Hopefully they can get the ball rolling with this one!
Updated today, the app is completely blank now, shows nothing but options. This is a very expensive app and I would certainly like to get my moneys worth! Come on, people!
We purchased this app in hopes of being able to give our son a way to communicate with us. The app would be perfect if not for one major flaw... My son is a "slider", when he uses his hands. He cant just pick up his hand and place on the button he wants, he slides his hands from the bottom up. When he does this the edit menu pops up every time and he never gets to say what he wants. I would really love it, if that feature was changed. It sounds crazy, but I specifically bought this iPad so that we can use the app, and its pretty disappointing that we cant use it.
